URL Action in Tableau:

A URL Action is used to navigate to any site or online data source. It allows the user to customize the hyperlink as needed by embedding fields from the Tableau data source.

URL action is found under Action, as discussed in my previous blog.

Let’s go through the steps to create a URL Action:

Step1: Click on Action, an ‘Actions’ window will appear, then click on add action’s dropdown menu, select Go to URL, a new window titled ‘Edit URL Action’ will appear.

Step2: In an edit URL Action window, add the details like name, source sheet, run action on and URL Target. In the end, Type URL in the given typing space, for example, I’m using Wikipedia’s URL here .

Step3: On the right side of the URL, there is an ‘insert’ dropdown. Click on it, and add a field according to your requirement, then click OK, here i am selecting state from the superstore data source.

Here is the final execution of the URL Action:

You just have to click (no right-click required) on the state shown on the map and click the hyperlink, and it will take you directly to the web page.
